is one of the most influential philosophers of his generation and one of Europe’s leading intellectual voices at the intersection of philosophy, science, and technology.
Markus Gabriel, born in Remagen in 1980, studied philosophy in Bonn, Heidelberg, and Hagen, received his doctorate in Heidelberg in 2005, and habilitated with works on epistemology and modern philosophy. Since 2009, he has been a professor at the University of Bonn, where he heads the International Center for Philosophy and founded the interdisciplinary Center for Science and Thought.
Gabriel is deeply engaged with the ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence. As principal investigator of the Desirable Digitalization project, he develops new frameworks for responsible digitalization and investigates how human values, morality, and freedom can be preserved in the age of learning machines.
He also advises international institutions, including the Kyoto Institute of Philosophy and The New Institute in Hamburg. His publications show how philosophy can provide guidance in an increasingly digitalized world.
